Smart Farming & Food Processing in West Brabant: Innovation in Focus

In West Brabant, companies, knowledge institutions and technology partners are collaborating on the future of food production. The project Smart Farming & Food Processing: West-Brabant in Focus maps the opportunities and challenges of robotisation, digitalisation and sustainability within the agro-food sector. With over 600 involved companies and dozens of interviews, this project offers a unique insight into the technological transition of our region.

Smart food processing: from raw material to customer-focused packaging

West Brabant has around 70 innovative food companies that process plant-based products. From semi-finished to finished products for retail and B2B: the sector is looking for ways to minimise variability, optimally utilise raw materials, and respond faster to market demands. Innovations such as AI-driven recipe development and customer-focused packaging make the chain more efficient and more sustainable.

Smart Farming: Precision, Data, and Sustainability

With more than 570 agricultural businesses, West Brabant is a hotbed for smart farming. From GPS-controlled tractors to weeding robots and vertical farming: farmers and horticulturalists are looking for technology that eases labour, increases yield and improves soil quality. Innovation challenges focus on autonomous vehicles, harvesting robots and data-driven cultivation decisions.

Building a future-proof ecosystem together

The project mapped not only technological trends but also the need for collaboration. Successful innovations emerge where tech companies, knowledge institutions, and agricultural entrepreneurs find each other. By focusing and bundling issues, we can scale up faster and make an impact in the region.
