Project Information

The Smart Sunflower Factory is an automated facility/production line specifically developed for processing sunflowers.
The aim was to build a smart factory that functions entirely autonomously and can be monitored and controlled remotely via Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) techniques.

What has been realised?

The students have developed a working demonstrator of an autonomous sunflower production line. The installation is equipped with sensors, actuators and an IIoT platform which allows the plant to be remotely controlled and analysed. Thanks to this technology, it is possible to automate processes, collect real-time data and plan maintenance proactively.

What have they learned?

The project group has learned how automation and IIoT come together in a smart factory application. They have gained experience in designing a production process, integrating sensor technology, and setting up an IIoT environment for monitoring and control. Additionally, they have gained insight into how smart technologies can contribute to efficiency, sustainability, and scalability in the agricultural sector.
